House I nestles in a depression surrounded by mango trees, and is obliquely approached through the trees. The house plan stretches out three arms to wrap around the existing trees on site. Using simple local materials and a steel roof with Mangalore tiles the house was detailed reusing old teak wood doors, windows, jallis and pillars. The three arms ensure each space has cross breezes and views of the wadi on all sides. MS brackets extend out to maneuver the changes in geometry from diagonal walls to roof overhangs.
Existing plinths on the site were extended and redeveloped as three summer cottages. A water tower marks the position of an old well. The cluster of buildings is held together with pathways through the old trees.
